dental implants

IMPLANT DENTISTRY

Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. The implants are tiny titanium posts which are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. In addition, dental implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration which occurs when teeth are missing.

Dental implants may be split into two separate categories based on the diameter of the device. Small diameter dental implants, most often referred to as ‘Mini Implants’, are those with a diameter less than three millimeters (3mm.) Likewise, standard or conventional implants are those implants larger than 3mm in diameter, but most commonly 4- 5mm. As a rule of thumb, Mini Dental Implants are at least half the price of conventional implants and sometimes a quarter of the price of conventional implants.

Mini Dental Implant
Mini dental implants (MDIs) are small diameter dental implants. Mini dental implants are particularly useful in the endentulous arch with minimal remaining bone facio-lingually. Mini dental implants are extremely valuable for endentulous patients that have loose lower dentures and want an easy solution to secure them in place.

Mini dental implants are placed in a flapless and minimally invasive procedure under local anesthetic.

Conventional Dental Implant
If you are missing one or more teeth, and wish to eat your favorite foods, increase your chewing ability, and improve your appearance, speech, and self-esteem, then you are a candidate for dental implants. The doctors at Oral Confidence use the latest implant technology so you can smile again with confidence. Call our office today to schedule your appointment.

The dentists at Oral Confidence  thoroughly examine patients' existing teeth and bones, upper and lower jaws and gum tissues before recommending implants. Implants replace the roots of lost teeth and are inserted under the gums. After 3-6 months, the bones grow around and adapt to implants as if they were natural roots. Once the implants are firmly in place and the surrounding gum tissue is strong, they are ready to support a crown or restored tooth. When the process is completed, the "new" teeth are often hard to tell apart from a patient's original teeth.

Bone Grafts
If the implant site does not have enough bone volume to support the appropriate sized implant, you will need a bone graft. Bone loss can be the result from periodontal disease, injuries, cysts, infections or an extracted tooth. Normally, it can be determined if you will need a bone graft from your x-ray prior to surgery, but in some cases it is not discovered until opening the implant site.

Bone grafts are very safe and effective in the dental implant restoration. Once it is placed, it will help replace missing bone, stimulate bone formation and increase bone volume.

Dental implant patients experience the benefits of new and permanent teeth, as well as a renewed confidence and improved quality of life.
