How to Take Care of Your Braces

(Poor Oral Hygiene)
Braces act like magnets for food, so you need to keep your teeth especially clean while you have them on. You'll want to brush after meals and be extra careful to get out any food that gets stuck in your braces.

Your orthodontist also may give you a special flosser you can use to floss in and around your braces. When your orthodontist changes your wires, ask if you can do a quick floss (it'll be easier without the wires).

A Potential Long-Lasting Treatment for Sensitive Teeth

1/16/2015

Rather than soothe and comfort, a hot cup of tea or cocoa can cause people with sensitive teeth a jolt of pain. But scientists are now developing a new biomaterial that can potentially rebuild worn enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity for an extended period. They describe the material, which they tested on dogs, in the journal ACS Nano.

Chun-Pin Lin and colleagues note that tooth sensitivity is one of the most common complaints among dental patients. Not only does it cause sharp pains, but it can

Getting Braces to Treat Common Bite Problems

11/4/2014

An improper bite doesn't look good. That is the usual reason that people seek treatment from an orthodontist. In addition, an improper bite causes difficulty in chewing. In people with crowded teeth, it can lead to more cavities or gum disease. Treatment of an irregular bite can improve your overall oral health and stabilize your bite.
Incorrect bites are grouped into categories. Common bite problems include:
  • Crossbite — Here, the upper teeth rest significantly inside or outside the lower teeth. A crossbite often can make it difficult to bite or chew. It also may cause the jaw to shift to one side as it grows.
  • Crowding — Permanent teeth may not have room to move into the right position:
    • If there is not enough room for the teeth
    • If the teeth are unusually large compared with the size of the dental arch
    • If the jaw is narrower than it should be

Wear Your Dentures With a Smile.

Full dentures, to replace all your own teeth, fit snugly over your gums. They will help you to eat comfortably and speak clearly, and will improve your confidence and self-esteem.

Partial dentures replace teeth that are missing and can sometimes be supported by the teeth you have left. If you have gaps between your teeth, then your other teeth may move to take up some of the space, so you could end up with crooked or tilted teeth. This could affect the way you bite and could damage your other teeth.

Will dentures make me look different?
Replacing lost or missing teeth is very good for your health and appearance. A complete or full denture replaces your natural teeth

Patient's Question:
I want to get a smile makeover but am concerned about the cost of cosmetic dentistry. What do most procedures cost?

Answer: Cosmetic dental procedures can range from simply whitening teeth, combined with reshaping minor discrepancies, to a full mouth smile makeover.

The cost will depend on what your goals are, as well as where you live. The best first step is a comprehensive exam and personalized consultation with a dentist

Smile: The Best Make-up A Girl CanWear

8/25/2014

Do you agree that a smile is the best makeup a girl can wear?

A white, healthy smile can work wonders for your overall appearance, so make sure you give your teeth the care and attention they deserve. Brush a least twice a day, for a minimum of two minutes, using gentle circular motions. Focus on each tooth individually and don't neglect the hard to reach teeth at the back.
  • It is just as important to floss daily as it is to brush. Flossing removes built-up bacteria, food particles and plaque from between the teeth, thus preventing cavities from forming.
  • Also remember to brush your tongue with the toothbrush and use a mouthwash to prevent bad breath.

Has your child seen a dentist yet? Parents don’t know enough about dental care as they should.

A recent study of nearly 500 parents with children younger than 12 was conducted to see how much they knew about dentistry. The results showed that about half of the parents didn’t take their children to visit the dentist on a regular basis.

There were 20 percent of the parents that incorrectly thought that they only had to take their children to the dentist when their teeth appeared. Also, only half of fathers and 63 percent of mothers made sure their children regularly brushed their teeth.

Currently, 30 percent of all children suffer from tooth decay.
